This body of work continues my exploration of Black hair as a tool of survival. From sowing grains into our hair to mapping escape routes through braids, hair has carried coded messages, sustenance, and protection for generations.

Similarly, quilts were used along the Underground Railroad to share hidden directions and symbols.

By weaving these histories together, I examine the deep connections between Black hair and quilting—two traditions shaped by resilience, strategy, and care. Through this work, I honor the legacy of our ancestors and the ongoing innovation that lives on in Black culture today.
