This 2016 performance piece was focused on the struggle many African American women have when it comes to finding representation of themselves in beauty magazines. The performance focused on me flipping through various beauty magazines and not finding any images of women who resemble me. I then move to finding traditional African styles on the internet and begin to style my braids into one the images I came across and then having a satisfying moment with myself in the mirror afterwards. The performance was also meant to highlight the amount of time and money many African American women spend on their hair. Also to highlight that it is a very private and consuming process.
